Throughout 2024, children up to 11 years old travel for free with an adult. This applies to all Syntus Utrecht buses and U-OV buses and trams.
Please note: if no adult is traveling, children aged 4 to 11 do not travel for free and children need their own ticket such as an OV travel ticket (debit card from the driver), buy a ride ticket in a travel app such as the Tranzer app) or check in and out with an OV chip card or debit card.
- Valid throughout 2024.
- Children up to 11 years old travel for free on all Syntus Utrecht buses and U-OV buses and trams. Also valid on local buses and SyntusFlex. It is just not valid on our night buses.
- Children (4 to 11 years old) travel for free if accompanied by an adult (18 years or older).
A maximum of 3 children aged 4 to 11 years may travel for free per adult. Children up to 3 years old always travel for free on public transport.
- You can take the bus or tram as often as you want.
- Children who travel for free do not need a ticket. Easy, right?
Please note: if no adult is traveling, children aged 4 to 11 do not travel for free and children need their own ticket such as an OV travel ticket (debit card from the driver), buy a ride ticket in a travel app such as the Tranzer app) or check in and out with an OV chip card or debit card.
Is your child older than 11 or are you travelling with more than 3 children? Then you can:
- Have a child/your children check in on a 2nd, 3rd … (digital) debit card/credit card. Your plastic debit card is seen as a different card than the one on your mobile or smartwatch. So you can travel on your plastic debit card while your child travels on a different debit card or the debit card on your mobile.
- Buy an e-ticket for your child/children in advance in, for example, the 9292 or Tranzer app.
- Buy tickets in advance in our service shop in Amersfoort, the U-OV service shop in Utrecht and at the U-OV tram stops.
- Buy a public transport chip card for your child (see here where to buy them): Service point finder - OV-chipkaart.nl
For (grand)parents, caregivers, uncles and aunts, etc. who want to go out with the children.
Children aged 4 to 11 who travel for free with an adult (max. 3 children free per adult) do not need a ticket. The accompanying adult does need a valid ticket for themselves.
If you are traveling with more than 3 children or if the child is traveling alone, they will need their own ticket, such as an OV travel ticket (debit card from the driver), buy a ride ticket in a travel app such as the Tranzer app) or check in and out with an OV chip card or debit card.
